Glasgow welcomes state of the art small wind turbine hub

Production of small wind turbines moves from Denmark to central Glasgow - potential to provide up to 80 Jobs Scotland’s Enterprise Minister Jim Mather has opened Glasgow’s state of the art Gaia-Wind Manufacturing, Design and Distribution Hub. Report from Scottish Development International.

The centre will see the production of small wind turbines move to Scotland from Denmark with the potential to create 80 jobs and inject £5 million into the Scottish economy.

Only two months after announcing their new Scottish operations, Gaia-Wind Ltd have already begun production in Glasgow with 350 turbines expected to be manufactured in the first year.

The centre, in Port Dundas, offers complete integration of all aspects of Gaia-Wind’s manufacturing process from R&D and design to production and distribution.

Speaking at the official opening, Jim Mather said:

“I am impressed with Gaia-Wind’s rapid development, ambitious growth plans and commitment to use the local supply chain. Gaia-Wind’s decision to expand its Scottish presence and invest in this impressive new Glasgow facility is testament to the skills of the workforce and the strength of our renewables sector.

“Single installation turbines are an important part of the diverse mix of energy sources and Gaia-Wind’s success helps fuel demand for small scale projects to allow people to power their homes, businesses and farms.”
