Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description

As part of the Research, Design & Engineering Team, you will provide design & mechanical engineering expertise and support across the product range.

Specifically, you will:

•    Design mechanical components and systems for Project specific engineering of the Gaia-Wind 11 kW wind turbine 
•    Design, engineer and test  improvements to enhance current design and develop new product
•    Generate CAD/Solid Works models and drawings (layouts, assemblies, detail, client etc)
•    Evaluate the 11kW turbine design with the objective of  cost reduction and increasing performance
•    Support the Supply Chain Manager in technical issues of outsourcing components
•    Support internal and external customers on technical queries (This may include some travel in the UK and overseas)
•    Analyse and perform calculations on the critical components and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements
•    Maintain design files & related documentation
•    Investigate and resolve to completion, customer issues relating to reliability, performance and quality

Duties and responsibilities

To be successful in securing an interview, you will boast a strong pedigree in design and engineering and will ideally have:

•    Degree or equivalent qualification in a Mechanical (Design) Engineering. Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous
•    Extensive demonstrable 'full development cycle’ experience in a  mechanical design engineering environment, preferably, but not necessarily, in wind turbine development
•    Strong technical background with experience at supervisory / management level a distinct advantage
•    Specific experience in one or all of the following is essential:

o    Aerodynamics - blade & rotor / composites
o    Machine Design – drive train components
o    Structure design and assessment

•    Working knowledge of virtual tools: eg CAD/SolidWorks
•    A completer/finisher with a solution orientated outlook
•    Ability to think in an innovative and creative manner and work independently within a multi-disciplinary team
•    Good communication and strong analytical skills
